Sandals Royal Bahamian is an exclusive, luxurious hotel and the perfect spot to spend a few days alone with the one you love. It’s also for your honeymoon, or even as a place to get married. If you decide to take the plunge right here on the island, Sandals will make everything easy for you. They can provide a wedding councilor, preacher, photographer, flowers, champagne and cake. Honeymoon accommodations include 27 luxury suites, each with its own plunge pool. The hotel’s main pool borders on the decadent, flanked by towering marble columns with a wide, glittering mosaic floor, all reminiscent of ancient Rome.

The guest rooms are a bit fancier than most, but seasoned travelers will feel right at home. The rooms that face the ocean all have small balconies. There are a half-dozen restaurants, cafés and bars, ranging from the intimate and comfortable to the best of fine dining. Take a short boat ride to the resort’s private island, with its palm-covered restaurant, bar and secluded beaches – a veritable Gilligan’s Island. Back ashore you can visit the spa, which is rivaled only by those high-end spas in Arizona, Las Vegas, and New York. Then there are the fountains, courtyards, English Pub, and tennis courts; golf is available on a championship course that’s almost within walking distance of the resort.

It’s all-inclusive and for couples only. Sorry – no gay couples. What does all this cost? This is one of the most expensive destinations in the Bahamas. Rates begin at a whopping $4,000 per couple for seven days, or $1,200 for two days; prices do include all meals and beverages. The smart shopper can always find a deal, so be sure to consult your travel agent early. You can also try going direct.
